From September 2022 she will be studying French and ab initio Italian at the prestigious Selwyn College.
An exceptional linguist, Freya completed her A levels at King’s last year, achieving A* in all four of her subjects: French, German, Spanish and Latin.
Lisa Cashmore, Head of Latin and Senior Tutor, said she was delighted that Freya had realised her ambition. “Having joined King’s from Minehead Middle School in Year 9, it quickly became evident that Freya was a very talented linguist. She completed her GCSE French with an A* when she was in Year 8, and went on to learn German, Spanish and Latin when she joined King’s, achieving an outstanding A* in each language at A level. I am sure that Freya will go on to enjoy great success in her studies of Modern Languages.”
Dr Laura Burgos-Lejonagoitia, Head of Modern Languages, who taught Freya Spanish, said it had been a privilege teaching a linguist with such natural talent. “It is quite unique to have a pupil who decides to take on all of the Foreign Languages offered in the curriculum, and who is able to elevate them to a form of art. We are delighted that she has been offered a place at Cambridge University. We wish her the best in her future studies.”
Head of Sixth Form Oliver Ridley explained: “It’s a great perk of the job to work with ambitious and highly motivated sixth formers. Freya’s commitment to her academic work has been really impressive throughout her time at King’s.”
After her exams Freya prepared hard for the application and interview process, and was overjoyed when she read the email telling her she had been offered a place.“It was definitely a lot of hard work and determination, but so worth it in the end. I’m super-excited to start the next part of my journey.”
