On Monday, our Sixth Form pupils were delighted to welcome back former pupil Cllr Toby Johnson OA as part of our Horizon Lecture series.
Having left King’s College in 2015, Toby found his calling in politics and was appointed to his first post at the age of 22. Initially elected as a councillor for the Liberal Democrats, Toby now represents the Conservatives in the BCP Council.
He spoke passionately about the need for service, a poignant message since the passing of the Queen, why politics is important and the routes available to those interested. The positive impacts you can have on your local area are not only rewarding, they are tangible and measurable.
He encouraged students to consider it as a career, to consider it as a subject to study at university and, even if they weren’t persuaded to jump in with both feet, Toby encourages all students to engage in the world of politics – read widely and make an educated impact on your community by voting for what you believe in.
