In a weekend of aquatics success for King’s pupils at the Somerset County Swimming Championships, water polo player, Darcey T represented the region at a major water polo event in the north west of England.
In a landmark event in the Swim England Water Polo calendar, the girls' U18 Inter-Regional Championships 2023 took place at Blackpool’s Palatine Leisure Centre across the weekend of 4th and 5th February.
Five teams competed in the Division One event, hosted by the North West Region; Scotland, North East Steelers, South West Sharks, North West Thunder and South East Anderida.
Darcey, who plays for the South West Sharks, took on the position of centre forward, playing in a team that is a category above her age group. In a tough tournament, the Sharks had some great matches and came away with a silver medal.
Our Head of Swimming, Mrs Ison, said: “We are delighted with Darcey’s success at such a significant water polo event. We are especially proud of her for playing above her age group in such a key position.”
Commenting on Darcey's success, our Head of PE and Girls' Games, Mrs Similien said: “We are passionate about female participation in sport at both elite and recreational levels. Darcey’s commitment to her sport and ability to manage the competing demands of the extensive training required, whilst continuing to do well with her studies show great determination and maturity.”
