This evening, our Lower Sixth pupils and staff were treated to a talk from actor and impressionist Debra Stephenson.
Debra talked to the year group about her career and shared her insights into personal resilience, never giving up and chasing your dream. She has had a long and successful career and is best known for her roles in Bad Girls, Coronation Street, Spitting Image, Holby City and The Impressions Show with Culshaw and Stephenson.
She discussed her highs and lows and described how she managed both the initial disappointments and her subsequently successful television and radio profile. As well as discussing the shows she has appeared in, Debra offered our pupils advice for their own careers, placing emphasis on building resilience, remaining humble and following their dreams.
Debra’s talk was extremely entertaining – her impromptu impressions of Margaret Thatcher and Marge Simpson to Theresa May and Lady Gaga raised laughter from everyone – and showcased her vast talent. But alongside the fun, Debra was keen to stress how we must try to do what we enjoy, strive for happiness and be kind to ourselves.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit us Debra! Maybe some budding impressionists will be waiting in the wings at King’s!
