King's College Celebrates Success in Inaugural Leith’s Confident Cookery Course

All 17 Sixth Form Pupils Achieve Certification in New 30-Week Programme

King's College, Taunton is delighted to announce the success of its inaugural "Confident Cookery Course," a 30-week programme introduced this year. All 17 Sixth Form pupils who participated have successfully completed the course, earning an official Leith’s cooking qualification that could lead to future employment within the culinary industry. More importantly, this course equips students with one of life's most essential skills.

Outstanding Results and Exceptional Guidance

Among the cohort, three pupils achieved top distinctions, twelve earned merits, and two received passes, marking an outstanding set of results for the first year of the course. The programme's success is largely attributed to the exceptional guidance and teaching of Patricia Stone, who has been instrumental in nurturing the culinary skills of the students.

Phil Lewis on the Course's Impact

Phil Lewis, Assistant Head Co-curricular, expressed his enthusiasm for the new course, stating, “It has been really exciting introducing the new longer Leith’s course to the school. The pupils dedicate one evening a week to the course and I have loved popping in to see them hard at work. Although our pupils thrive at King's academically, we also pride ourselves on an all-round education, and the Leith’s course is an excellent example of this, providing huge opportunity, experience, and in this case, a qualification to add to their CVs. I can’t wait to see how next year's group get on; they will have big shoes to fill!”

The success of the course has already sparked significant interest for the next academic year, with bookings for the new group of aspiring chefs filling up quickly. King's looks forward to continuing this valuable programme and helping more students develop their culinary talents and life skills.
