16-Year-Old Thomas Rew Represents England Under-19 Cricket Squad
In a remarkable achievement, 16-year-old Thomas Rew from King's College, Taunton, has been named in the England Under-19 cricket squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International youth series against Sri Lanka. This makes him the youngest pupil from King's to earn this honour.
Thomas, a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper, continues the school's proud tradition of producing international cricketers, following in the footsteps of alumni such as Jos Buttler, Tom Banton, and his older brother, James Rew.
A Tradition of Sporting Excellence
Throughout his years at King’s Schools, Thomas has demonstrated exceptional athletic prowess. He has been crowned county squash champion and is a single-figure handicapper in golf. However, it is in cricket where he has truly excelled, regularly playing for the King’s First XI over the last two seasons.
Thomas is part of the Somerset Pathway and has been on the Academy for the past two years. He made his debut for Somerset Second XI in 2023 and plays club cricket for Taunton St Andrew’s, where he scored his first century in the Somerset Cricket League at just 13 years old.
Outstanding Performances
His recent performances have been nothing short of spectacular. Last weekend, Thomas scored 150 runs for Somerset Under-16s against Berkshire, an innings that included 14 fours and 10 sixes. He followed this up with an unbeaten 85 for Somerset Seconds, his best performance at this level, leading his team to victory.
Rob Woodman, the head of cricket at King’s, praised Thomas's achievements: “Thomas continues to achieve great things with his cricket. He is an outstanding wicket-keeper and a smart batsman who loves scoring lots of runs. A huge and well-deserved selection to the England U19s this summer, especially at the young age of 16, makes it even more impressive. The school is extremely proud and wishes him well over the next month.”
A Source of Inspiration
Thomas Rew’s selection for the England Under-19 squad marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning cricket career, and he is set to inspire many young athletes at King’s College, Taunton and beyond.
