We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Oliver Ellsworth as the new Head of Sixth Form. Oliver brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position, having previously worked at Hampton School, a highly successful independent day school in London. A native of the South West, Oliver, along with his wife and two young children, is returning to the area after a decade in the capital and eagerly looks forward to joining the community at King's College.
With an impressive academic background in education and a passion for inspiring young minds, Oliver is poised to make a significant contribution to the academic and personal development of King's College Sixth Formers. His MA focused on the values of independent learning and he is keen to support and empower King’s pupils within this area as they prepare for university and beyond.
Oliver attended Exeter School and has fond memories of visiting King’s College to play rugby as a boy, in particular a draw against King’s on the 1st XV pitch in 2009 secured by a last-minute kick! Oliver is passionate about a range of sports and looks forward to contributing to the extra-curricular life at King’s. He was previously on the books as a professional rugby player at the Exeter Chiefs.
Mr Ellsworth commented: “I am honoured and excited to join such a vibrant, talented and supportive community. I have always been struck by the character, enthusiasm and selflessness of King’s pupils, qualities I feel are both truly distinctive to this school and essential to success in later life.
“Whether it is in the Sixth Form Centre, my English classroom or on the sports fields, I’m eager to immerse myself in life at King’s, and to working closely with the pupils, parents and staff to provide an exceptional educational experience.”
It is an exciting time for Oliver to join the sixth form team, with the new state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre having only recently opened. Designed to provide opportunities for collaborative working and private study, along with a vibrant social scene, preparing pupils for the next stage of their education and a seamless transition between school and university study.
The Headmaster, Mr Sloan, said: “Oliver is an outstanding addition to our senior team. He brings energy, experience, dynamism and a sense of fun. I know our pupils will really connect well with him and that he will inspire them to fulfil their potential and make the most of the wonderful education on offer at the school; I warmly welcome Oliver to King’s.”
