King’s Hall School and King’s College understand the importance placed on school meals and the part they play in the day, diet and educational experience of pupils.
Independents by Sodexo manage the catering operations at the schools and ensure pupils' health, wellbeing and satisfaction is at the root of everything they do. On average, around 6,000 meals a week are prepared in the kitchens by staff who are a well and truly part of the school community.
Food is available around-the-clock, from a hearty early breakfast and packed meals for trips and outings, to high energy snacks that set pupils up for sports fixtures and delicious evening meals. Standards of catering are extremely high and all diets, nutritional and religious needs are met.
Rick Pearce, Sodexo Catering Manager said: “Our ethos is ‘fresh food from scratch’. Menus are seasonal, reflecting the best of fresh local produce and constructed to offer balance and variety.
“Raw ingredients are sourced from carefully selected suppliers with whom we have longstanding relationships, and each supplier adheres to stringent standards with regards to health, safety and welfare.
Both schools proudly hold a five-star food hygiene rating, and have done so since the measure was introduced ten years ago. Environmental Health Officers recently made unannounced visits to both schools to check all legal obligations are being fulfilled and that the daily catering operation is being conducted in a safe and legal fashion.
King's Hall and King's College have previously been shortlisted for the Independent School of the Year for Healthy Eating award. The judges recognised the innovative healthy eating programmes which has had tangible impact in the school and local community.
