King’s College, Taunton, is thrilled to announce the latest addition to its rugby coaching team: former England Captain and 2003 World Cup winner, Lewis Moody. With an illustrious playing career that includes 71 international caps and a reputation for tenacity and leadership, Lewis brings invaluable experience to the growing sports program at King’s.

Lewis will take a lead as the school’s forwards specialist coach, focusing on developing the technical skills of both the senior 1st XV and junior rugby teams. His role will be pivotal in nurturing the next generation of rugby talent, drawing on his vast knowledge and years of experience at the pinnacle of professional sport.

Speaking on Lewis’ appointment, Ed Lewsey, Director of Rugby at King’s College, expressed his excitement about the impact the former international star will have on the teams. "Lewis has done it all as a professional player, and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with our players and coaches at King’s. I am sure that his impact across the teams will be profound, and it's just superb to have him here on the King's pitches coaching the teams. His leadership and technical expertise will be hugely beneficial to our players."

The significance of having a former England captain coaching students cannot be overstated. Elite-level coaching provides students with not only advanced technical skills but also insights into the mindset and discipline required at the highest level of the game. A professional athlete like Moody brings an additional layer of inspiration, helping to instill values such as teamwork, resilience, and determination—qualities that transcend sport and are vital life skills. His presence is expected to elevate the performance of the teams and inspire young athletes to reach their full potential.

Lewis Moody also shared his enthusiasm about joining the King’s College coaching team. “Having had the chance to take a training session last year and see the enthusiasm and energy that the players and coaches have, I was thrilled when the opportunity arose to join the coaching team. Coaching is one of the things I love, and I haven’t coached seniors for a while, so the chance to get back into it with an enthusiastic bunch at an excellent school was a great opportunity I couldn’t turn down.”

The players at King’s College are in a unique position to learn from one of rugby’s finest. Under Moody’s guidance, they will not only improve their technical and tactical skills but also benefit from the mental toughness and leadership qualities that he was renowned for during his career. His high-level expertise is expected to have a transformative effect on the program.

For King’s College, this appointment represents a significant step forward in its commitment to providing top-tier coaching and sports education.
