Polo is proving to be very popular among the young riders at King’s where three of the pupils have achieved their -2 handicap.

Philippa S, Hanna P and Natalie R passed their rules test after completing the Polo Pathway and are now registered polo players and able to play in tournaments.

The trio’s training took place at Taunton Vale Polo Club, where the King’s College Equestrian Centre is based and culminated in a great instructional chukka match. The club was founded in 1911 by the Officers of the Regimental Depot of the Somerset Light Infantry, together with other enthusiasts, and has the oldest polo ground in England.

During the course of the match they showed off all they had learned, including off-side and near-side shots, along with a superb near-side back-hand by Philippa (one of the hardest shots in the game).

King’s College will be sponsoring a team in the Friar Park Cup which is taking place at Taunton Vale Polo Club, which is situated at Orchard Portman.
