King’s College has a comprehensive swimming and aquatics programme that provides opportunities for pupils to enjoy the water throughout school life, whether it be social, recreational, competitive or as part of the PE timetable.
On Friday 10 March, ten pupils competed in the Bath and Otter Cup competition. The event consists of four relays swam in a 50m pool at the London Aquatic Centre, the home of swimming during the 2012 Olympics.
The school was represented by two teams of five talented swimmers, Oscar B, Ian C, William K, Euan M and Matthew Y, and Darcie C, Sofia J, Natalia P, Greta S and Sophie W. The combined team was captained by Sofia J, with Euan M taking on the role of Vice Captain.
Both teams put in strong performances with the girls’ team making the final of the 4 x 50m medley relay and achieving a time of 2:17.77. The girls also narrowly missed a place in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay and were named as first reserves having achieved a time of 2:02.40 in the heats.
Sandra Ison, Head of Swimming, said: “The King’s swimmers were a credit to the school, their attitude and drive were second to none. We are very proud of both teams and look forward to more galas in the months ahead.”
The Bath and Otter Cup is a hugely popular event with almost 80 schools participating from across the country.
It was in this same pool in 2012 that Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, won six medals as well as ending his Olympic career. A truly inspiring environment for our pupils to experience.
