We’re very much looking forward to seeing our tennis provision get off to a flying start this term under the guidance of our new Head of Tennis, Mr Sam Price.

Putting our pupils through their paces, former tennis pro Mr Price will be working with all age groups across Prep, and will also be delivering some sessions with our younger pupils in Pre-Prep.

Mr Price has been a tennis coach for the past 14 years working with a range of abilities and ages, including spending time as a regional development officer in Scotland, where his primary focus was introducing tennis to children at Prep school age. Still an active player, having played county and national level tennis and squash respectively as a junior, Mr Price plays in the South West of England premier league for squash.

Commenting, our Director of Sport, Mrs Foad, said: “We are incredibly excited to have Mr Price join King’s as our new Head of Tennis across both school sites. He will come to the Prep School on Mondays and Thursdays to offer tennis lessons to our Prep pupils and will aim to create the opportunity for all pupils to access high-quality tennis coaching in a number of optional sessions.”

She added: “As has been the case with our previous provision, tennis lessons will remain part of our ongoing sport and activity sessions, and all pupils will continue to benefit from racquet sports and tennis as part of the PE curriculum during the Lent and Summer Terms.”

Offering a variety of tailored tennis coaching sessions for pupils across different year groups, these targeted lessons with Mr Price will take place all year round (term time) during PE lessons or at lunchtimes (according to year group).

For Years 5 to 8, pupils can replace their regular PE lessons with paid small-group tennis coaching, enhancing their skills during timetabled sessions. In Years 3 and 4, pupils can opt for lunchtime coaching on Thursdays, while Pre-Prep children have sessions during Monday lunchtimes (commencing after Half Term).

Additionally, Saturday morning sessions in the Tennis and Netball Dome at King’s College provide training for all abilities, from mini red to yellow ball, ensuring age-appropriate development. These lessons provide an engaging way to build tennis skills in a fun, supportive environment.
