Endless Opportunities

King's offers a vast array of co-curricular activities, unparalleled for a school of its size, from sport and drama to music and outdoor pursuits, from CCF and dance to cookery and debating. Importantly King's tries to ensure that as far as possible, there are no conflicts of interest between the various activities.

Outdoor activities are well catered for within the umbrella of the CCF, and alongside that are the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Gold award schemes. Kayaking takes place in the pool in winter and in the surf or rapids in the warmer weather. The school has its own climbing wall and groups also go climbing in Devon. The CCF runs a Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Army section.

House Competitions

Inter-house competitions include, debating, music and general knowledge events, as well as inter-school debating, public speaking and Philosothon teams. Many of the academic departments also run their own societies outside the classroom curriculum.

CCF Sections

We are particularly proud of our Service Activities which take place on a Friday afternoon. The aim is to encourage service, either to the community or in the Combined Cadet Force, the emphasis being on leadership skills.

What to Choose?

All of our Third Form participate in the Chindits; in the Fourth Form they choose between the CCF sections (The Royal Navy, Royal Marine and The Army) . In Fifth Form, the options range from the CCF, Community Service (working in local schools, retirement homes, charity shops or hospital), sport leaders award (where pupils acquire national qualifications from The FA and England Athletics), theatre technical group, King’s Sustainability Society.

Other mid-week activities include: rowing, climbing, clay-shooting, kayaking, badminton, body pump, pilates, choir, squash, horse riding, biathlon and pentathlon club, tennis, fencing, archery, and water polo.
