From Cricket Success to Durham University: Jago’s Story | A*A*A

Having joined King’s Prep, Jago’s journey through the School reflects the value of a broad and ambitious education. An Academic Scholar throughout his time at King’s, he combined strong academic performance with an outstanding cricket career.

As Vice-Captain of the 1st XI, Jago played a key role in one of the most successful periods in King’s cricket history, helping secure National Schools Cricket Cup titles at both U15 and 1st XI level. Beyond sport, he contributed to academic scholarship societies, represented the School in hockey and football, and regularly performed at school events.

Following six months at a cricket academy in Australia, Jago will begin a Psychology degree at Durham University, taking with him the academic foundations and leadership skills developed at King’s.

Medical School Success: Isabel’s Journey from King’s Prep | A*A*A

Isabel’s success in securing a place at Medical School demonstrates the strength of academic support and university preparation available at King’s College, Taunton.

Having started her education at King’s College Prep, Isabel took full advantage of life beyond the classroom, completing Ten Tors challenges, participating in CCF and representing the School in swimming and hockey. Alongside these commitments, she received tailored support through subject societies, tutoring and specialist medical school application guidance.

Her success highlights how King’s prepares aspiring medics for one of the most competitive university application processes in the UK, helping pupils develop both the academic credentials and personal qualities required for medicine.

Building a Future in Music: Poppy’s Story | A*A*A*

For Poppy, music became a defining part of her King’s experience. Through involvement in concerts, ensembles and performances, she developed both her musicianship and confidence as a performer. 

Alongside serving as a School Prefect, Poppy embraced opportunities to lead, collaborate and perform, gaining valuable skills that will support her future ambitions. She will now study Music and Modern Languages at the University of Bristol, with plans to pursue a career within the music industry. 

Her journey reflects the extensive opportunities available within the King’s College Taunton’s Music Department and the role these experiences play in helping pupils prepare for future study and careers.

Combining Academic Success with Elite Equestrian Performance: Sophie’s Story | BTEC D*D*

Sophie’s time at King’s demonstrates how pupils can successfully balance academic study with high-level sporting commitments while benefiting from one of the School’s most distinctive opportunities, the ability to board at school with their horse. 

Having joined King’s from Badminton School, Sophie quickly became an integral part of the thriving equestrian programme. As one of the few schools in the region able to offer onsite equestrian facilities alongside boarding, King’s enabled Sophie to keep her horse with her throughout her education, allowing her to pursue her riding ambitions without compromising her academic studies. 

With access to expert coaching, dedicated facilities and the support of Head of Equestrian Mrs Selway, Sophie competed at nationally recognised events including Hickstead, Windsor and the NSEA Championships, while also enjoying significant success at regional and academy level. 

Alongside her sporting achievements, Sophie developed the confidence, independence and self-belief that will serve her well as she embarks on a gap year before university. Her story highlights the unique opportunities available at King’s for pupils seeking to combine academic success with excellence in equestrian sport.

Leadership, Service, Outdoor Adventure and Sporting Excellence: Alistair’s Story | AAB

As School Captain, CCF WO2 Sergeant Major and a representative of multiple 1st teams, Alistair made an exceptional contribution to the King’s community.

His experience at King’s spanned leadership, sport, service, outdoor education and the performing arts. From helping King’s secure two National Squash Plate titles to taking on the role of Gaston in the School production of Beauty and the Beast, Alistair embraced every opportunity available to him. He also made the most of King’s extensive outdoor education programme, with experiences such as the Pringle Trophy and CCF helping him develop resilience, self-reliance, teamwork and leadership skills that will stay with him long after leaving school.

Through a combination of academic challenge, outdoor adventure and leadership opportunities, Alistair developed the confidence to step beyond his comfort zone and a commitment to supporting those around him. His journey reflects King’s belief that education extends far beyond the classroom, helping pupils develop the character, confidence and leadership qualities needed to thrive in the future.

Pursuing Medicine and High-Performance Cricket: Kritthik’s Story |A*AA

Kritthik’s success highlights the ability of King’s College, Taunton’s pupils to pursue excellence across multiple disciplines. 

During his time at King’s, he secured a place within the Glamorgan U18 cricket pathway while also successfully gaining admission to study Medicine at Cardiff University. Through the support of teaching staff, sports coaches and the Futures team, he balanced the demands of elite sport with the rigorous requirements of medical school applications. 

His achievements demonstrate how King’s supports pupils in pursuing ambitious goals, providing personalised guidance that enables success both inside and outside the classroom. 

Ruby Beresford-Knight | A*A*AA

Ruby was deputy Head Girl and an impeccable role model and inspiration to so many pupils, she led with courage and passion in the classroom, on the sports field, and throughout the school.

Ruby’s academic journey began at King’s Prep, where her love of Science and Maths was nurtured and encouraged. Ruby consistently threw herself wholeheartedly into every aspect of school life.

With the support of the King’s travel prize Ruby will now spend a year travelling and volunteering in South America before applying to study Economics and Maths as a joint honours degree.

Gray Sinfield | A*AA

Gray joined King’s in Year 9 from Hazelgrove on a sports scholarship alongside his twin brother Hal. As Head Boy he was an impeccable role model and inspiring leader to the school community.

School life gave Gray countless positive experiences and in his own words, his time at King’s helped shape him into the person he is today, far more than he could ever have imagined.

Gray is now enjoying a gap year before applying to The University of Edinburgh to study Politics and Economics. His plans include backpacking through India, working on a safari camp in Kenya, and taking on the Mongol Rally.

Brooke Whittaker | BTEC D*DD
(Equivalent to A*AA at A Level)

Brooke went from strength to strength during her time at school, balancing training, matches, and academic commitments with impressive determination. After achieving a D*DD in BTEC Sport, she secured a place at the University of Exeter. Before beginning her degree, Brooke generously shared her skills and experience by coaching at King’s Prep sports camps—a fantastic way to inspire the next generation.

Hal Sinfield | A*A*A*

Hal joined King’s in Year 9 on a sports scholarship and has a number of proud moments under his belt, from captaining the 1st XV rugby team, playing 1st team hockey for three years, representing the school in the winning Sir Stuart Pringle Royal Marines team and leading his house to victory in the house music competition.

Reflecting on one of his most lasting memories of school, Hal recalls a moment on the sports field that stood out not for the victory on the day, but for the character building opportunity it revealed.

In his final game at the Rosslyn Park 7s rugby tournament against Cheltenham College Hal led the team with encouragement and courage. The team defied the odds, battling through two halves of extra time before being eventually knocked out. What stayed with him was not the result, but the way his teammates gave everything, played selflessly for one another, and left nothing behind on the pitch. Delivering his final team talk that day remains one of his most treasured memories.

Sofya Stygar | A*BB

From whole-school plays to LAMDA grades, tennis matches to lifeguarding qualifications, Sofya embraced every opportunity at King’s, both on and off the stage.

Sofya achieved A*BB in her A Levels and is heading to Performer’s College, part of BIMM University in Manchester, ready to take the next step in her performing arts career, with dreams of a master’s degree in London.
