BOARDING AT PREP SCHOOL

Boarding at King’s Prep is more than just a place to stay – it’s an opportunity for your child to develop confidence, independence, and resilience, all within a safe and nurturing, family-orientated environment.

This is a happy place where children can grow into the best versions of themselves – ready to embrace the world with curiosity, kindness, and enthusiasm.

Our boarding options are exceptionally flexible: from full-time boarding to our popular flexi and occasional packages. Whether your child needs a helping hand a few evenings a week or a more immersive boarding experience, we’re here to help.

Led by Anna Hardy, our dedicated boarding team is the perfect blend of experienced teaching staff with energetic graduate gap year students who provide 24/7 supervision and care. From organising engaging evening activities to ensuring a smooth bedtime routine, our staff are always on hand.

Boarding at Prep – Channah

“We really try to keep the children busy and engaged. Busy children are happy children, and we want them to make the most of their time with us.”

Anna Hardy, Houseparent

Our boarding house – split into three areas – offers a comfortable, homely environment for the children, centred on the common room, complete with sofas, TVs, pool tables, air hockey, and ping pong tables. The children love spending time together in these shared spaces, fostering a strong sense of community. We also have dedicated spaces for quiet time, with children encouraged to use their dorms primarily for sleeping. This helps prevent isolation and ensures the boarding experience is truly social.

No two evenings are the same in our boarding house. Boarders enjoy a choice of activities ranging from tag in the Sports Hall, games in the woods to Arts and Crafts and various sporting activities, including making a splash in our outdoor pool during warm weather. Our staff are on hand to supervise and facilitate these activities, ensuring the children’s safety while allowing them to explore their interests and build lasting friendships.

At weekends, our full-time boarders (many of whom are from overseas) get to experience more of British culture – as well as having lots of fun. Activities include trips to the cinema, theatre, waterparks and the beach, as well as pottery painting, go-karting, bowling and walks on the Quantock Hills.

Flexible Weekly Boarding – The best of both worlds

Our flexible weekly boarding option is a popular choice for families living within an hour or so of our beautiful school site. It offers pupils the chance to enjoy the full boarding experience during the week – packed with fun, friendship and independence, while still returning home at weekends to enjoy family time.

During the week, children are immersed in a vibrant and nurturing environment, where evenings are just as enriching as the school day. After lessons, there’s time to relax with friends, explore hobbies, play games, and take part in a wide variety of activities – from woodland adventures and sports to creative clubs and movie nights. The boarding houses are warm and welcoming, with experienced staff who truly care, creating a sense of family that helps children grow in confidence, independence and allows them to thrive.

Weekly boarding provides structure and routine, eases busy family logistics, and allows pupils to become part of a close-knit community – all while enjoying everything King’s Prep has to offer, every day of the week.

Our outstanding on-site catering team makes sure that all meals are delicious and nutritious, catering to all dietary requirements, allergies and preferences.

The popular chefs work closely with the children to understand their likes and dislikes, and organise special events like Chinese New Year celebrations with authentic street food.

For your peace of mind, we have a dedicated on-site nurse available from 8am to 5pm every day. Our nurse works closely with the boarding team to ensure the wellbeing of all our children, and can administer basic medication as needed. Whether managing a minor illness or ongoing support for long-term health conditions, every child’s medical needs are met with care.

With modern technology playing a big role in children’s lives, we also appreciate the importance of balance – especially at younger ages. That’s why screen time is restricted and carefully managed so children can enjoy more face-to-face interaction with their peers.

Finally, our houseparents work in partnership with families, ensuring you’re always kept informed and involved in your child’s journey.

We believe in a transparent approach that gives you reasssurance and fosters a shared commitment to each child. After all, we understand that entrusting your child to our care is a big decision. That’s why we support you with open communication and a genuine commitment to your child’s happiness.

“My big focus is creating a true home-from-home for the children. We’re a small boarding community, but we have a wonderful sense of family, with the children really looking out for one another like siblings.”

Anna Hardy, Houseparent
