Both boarders and day pupils are fully integrated into our boarding houses, creating a unified and supportive environment. Day pupils enjoy the flexibility of spending extended hours in boarding houses, ensuring they share in the same vibrant experience.
We are committed to continuously upgrading our boarding houses, with recent refurbishments enhancing comfort and modernity. Each house is thoughtfully equipped with study spaces, social areas, and amenities like pool tables, table tennis, gaming consoles, and quiet zones, ensuring a balanced environment for both study and relaxation.
Weekends and evenings at King’s are dynamic and engaging, offering activities that nurture leadership, teamwork, and fun, reflecting life beyond the classroom.
Of course, pastoral care is a cornerstone of our ethos.
A network of trusted staff ensures each pupil has access to support tailored to their needs, fostering strong connections and a sense of belonging. Additional features such as mindfulness spaces, designed for meditation and relaxation, complement our focus on mental health and wellbeing.
Our boarding ethos is shaped by listening to pupils and parents, ensuring we adapt to their evolving needs. This collaborative approach ensures that King’s continues to offer a boarding experience that is supportive, enriching, and enjoyable.
Our boarding houses are called Bishop Fox, Carpenter, Meynell, Taylor, Tuckwell and Woodard.
At King’s College, the boarding houses are a vital base for each pupil. It is where they work, sleep and play: somewhere that provides a family atmosphere in new surroundings. It’s much more than a place to hang their coat – it offers individual personal space to day and boarding pupils alike. The boarding experience allows pupils to express their own individuality and personality whilst showing kindness and tolerance to others.
There are six boarding houses at King’s College, three for boys and three for girls, and each has its own distinct charity, social and cultural events such as formal dinner dances, concerts and theatrical shows. There are regular inter-house events too.
Weekly Boarding in the South West
Our Weekly Boarding option offers families across the South West and beyond a flexible and supportive boarding option. Designed for pupils who thrive from a consistent weekday routine, weekly boarding provides the full experience of boarding life from Monday morning to Saturday.
Weekly boarders enjoy comfortable accommodation within their dedicated House, supervised study, co‑curricular opportunities, and a strong sense of community that defines our boarding houses.
Weekly Boarding is especially popular with families based in the South West, where travel distances and busy schedules make weekday boarding a practical and highly effective option. It ensures pupils benefit from stability, independence, and the richness of boarding life, while still maintaining flexible family and out of school commitments.
While Full Boarding remains the most immersive way to experience everything our school offers, Weekly Boarding provides a flexible alternative that supports families looking for a variety of options.
